Guest Speaker - Rudy Gelis
With over 1600 species of birds, Ecuador, sitting right on the equator. offers more bird diversity in less space than any other country in the world. Gelis is a naturalist, researcher, educator and guide for birdwatching throughout Ecuador and Peru. He is co-author with Murray Cooper of  "Plumas: Birds in Ecuador", a recently published book of fine art photography. He has collaborated in numerous publications in ornithology journals.

Celebrating the ecology of the unique owl species that reign over our Sonoma night skies. View live owls and learn about their value to us. Joe Mueller, an expert on owl field biology, has been teaching biology at the College of Marin for nearly 20 years. His subjects of particular interest include ecology, marine biology, ornithology and environmental science, taking a holistic approach to science.

 
 GGRO - Sonoma Hawk Day - October 4th  11:00-100 PM  Meet atop Hawk Hill for a day of raptor watching at the fall migration’s peak with GGRO Director Allen Fish.  Red-tailed, Sharp-shinned, and Cooper’s Hawks are guaranteed.  Merlin, Osprey, Golden Eagle, and Broad-winged Hawk are entirely possible.  In all, eighteen species of hawk, kite, falcon, eagles, osprey, vulture, and harrier may be seen in early October from the Marin Headlands.  Bring binos, lunch, liquid, layered clothing, sense of adventure.  Thick fog or rain cancels.  Directions at www.ggro.org, or call 415-331-0730.

Guest Speaker - Dr. Peter Leveque - With over 430 species of birds that have been recorded in Sonoma CO. is among the riches birding areas in the United States. Learn about SOnoma birds and the fall migration and what you may expect to see in Sonoma. Dr. Leveque retired after 35 years as one of the College's foremost biology instructors. A Natural History Lecture at Santa Rosa JC was established in honor of Peter Leveque. He is Past President of Madrone Audubon and Redwood Regional Ornithological Society.
